About Me
The French Potter
Hello, my name is Lorenzo Gray-Liva and I am “The French Potter.” My mother was born in Grenoble, France and has taught me French since I was born, building the French side of my identity. I first found an interest in ceramics when I was around 8 years old, and have since been intrigued in every aspect of the craft. I am currently working on an AP 3D Art and Design Portfolio at Whitfield School, focusing on the interaction between structure and surface within art forms. I am based in St. Louis, MO, creating in the Craft Alliance, along with my home studio and school studio.
My Ceramics
Each of my ceramic pots are thrown, trimmed, glazed, and fired by hand, by solely me and are mostly meant to be functional. Every aspect is intricately thought-out and purposefully applied. All of my pots are microwave-, dishwasher-, and food-safe.
What I Am Working On
Currently, I am focusing on my AP 3D Studio Portfolio, creating pieces such as to the right. I am trying to learn everything that I can when creating these vessels, from creating my own glazes, trying new firing atmospheres and schedules, experimenting with plaster molds, utilizing mason stains, and overall creating more complex forms.
Goals
I would like to utilize my social media accounts and knowledge to educate younger audiences, providing an easier introduction to a craft that I find extremely intricate and interesting. Being able to learn as much as possible along the way and creating new art, while also being able to support myself with something that I genuinely enjoy is what I want at the end of the day.
